Viva CalleSJ

The City of San José’s open streets program, Viva CalleSJ, is a vision to integrate all the city’s diverse communities with one another. For a few days a year, the city shuts down miles of major streets through several neighborhoods and districts into car-free spaces for walking, biking, and community connection.

I collaborate with the VCSJ social media team for digital marketing. We keep SJ residents informed of street closures, activity hub updates, available resources, as well as Pit Stop Partners - partnered local businesses along our routes that we help advertise. I also provided live coverage on social media, alerting followers of upcoming shows, activities, and food choices on our routes as well as post event highlight videos.

In 2025, Viva CalleSJ celebrated its 10th anniversary - a major milestone for a program that didn’t expect to last this long. In honor of the founders and the residents who help make this happen, Viva CalleSJ reached out to me to produce a short film, interviewing key founders and supporters of Viva CalleSJ, including current and former City Councilmembers, a County Supervisor, and San José Mayor Matt Mahan.
